1. Ask what a guest would ask
Open ChatGPT and use search for Questions about your area. Start with 3 Questions matching what you actually offer.
Example Questions, not measured Answers
- Where can I get breakfast in my town?
- Which restaurants near my station serve Sunday lunch?
- Where can I eat with children in my neighbourhood?
Replace the places with your own. Only ask about Sunday lunch or family dining if those fit your business.
Do not put your restaurant name in the first Question. That checks discovery rather than whether ChatGPT recognises a supplied name.
Then ask about your restaurant by name to check factual details. Keep these two kinds of Question separate.
2. Keep the evidence, not just a score
For each Answer, save the exact Question, full response, linked Sources, date, language and location context. Note whether search was used.
Record whether your restaurant was named and which other businesses appeared. Open the Sources and check what they actually say.
An Answer without search is not evidence of a current web-search result. An error is Unavailable, not evidence that you were absent.
A manual check is a snapshot, not a ranking or a promise. Answers can change with wording, context and time.
Do not call a public-app spot-check an official API measurement. Our measurement explanation shows the distinction planned for marketed.
3. Fix one unclear detail first
Compare the Answer with your verified business details. Check your address, opening hours, menu and booking instructions.
- Put your address and current opening hours in readable page text.
- Make your menu available as text, not only a photograph.
- Correct outdated details on your website and Google Business Profile.
- Ask your web person to check that structured data matches what visitors can see.
These changes help people understand your restaurant. They do not guarantee an AI recommendation.
Never add a dietary claim, award or service just because an Engine suggested it. Use only details you can verify.
If you were not named, do not assume your website caused it. Look at cited Sources before choosing a change.
4. Ask your web person about access
OpenAI distinguishes its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, from its training crawler, GPTBot. Search access and training permission are separate choices.
If you want ChatGPT search eligibility, ask your web person to check robots.txt and firewall access against OpenAI’s guidance.
Allowing a crawler is not a guarantee of inclusion. Avoid replacing your whole robots.txt without understanding its existing rules.
For Google’s AI features, ordinary search requirements still apply. Google says there are no additional technical requirements or special AI markup.
Your web person can use Search Console to check indexing issues. It does not show whether ChatGPT recommended your restaurant.
What to do next
Choose one verified correction and save today’s evidence. Repeat the same Questions after the change is live.
Record any difference as observed, not proof your change caused it. Keep Questions and location context consistent.
